I posted the following a couple of months ago. In the interest of saving
time, I'll simply post again, unedited.

_Mommy It's a Renior_ has been re-titled, and clumsily, in my opinion.
"Child-size Masterpieces" is the new title. I have the first three
levels and the 'instruction' book. They're lovely paintings, all reduced
to postcard-size, on heavy stock. One of the primary ways to use the set
is to have the children match the ones that belong together. First it's
obvious that two identical paintings belong together, then later it's
less obvious that same styles by the same author belong together. One
level has all mama-child paintings, and the student matches the
identical paintings, but distuingishing between all in the mama-child
set.
The idea is that the child becomes familar with artists and paintings,
while doing (at first) pre-school-type simple matching. Later sets are
more complex and might be considered upper-elementary. There's a variety
of artists and styles, including abstracts.
The friend who promoted these so effectively in our support group ended
with a story from just that week. She was having a bad day, and put in a
video to keep her kids occupied (I know none of you ever do that!) The
opening scene, before the title appeared on the screen, was a painting
of the Impressionistic style. Her son (about 9, I think) said, "Mommy,
that's like an impressionistic painting, isn't it??" His mom was
surprised, looked closer at the screen, and said that no, it wasn't
*like* an impressionistic painting, it *was* one! (This was several
years ago, before the word 'like' began to be used as if it were an
'um.')
"child-size Masterpieces" is not an art *curriculum,* it's an art
*appreciation* curriculum. The purchased sets can be expanded by cutting
up an art book or an old calendar and adding those pictures also.
Hope that helps.
Yours in Christ,
Denise
