Ben Bernanke has been voted US Federal Reserve chief for a
second term by the Senate Banking Committee despite sharp
criticisms.
The committee backed Bernanke on a 16-7 vote on Thursday,
with one Democrat joining six Republicans in opposition.
Bernanke received criticism from Democrats that he cared
more about Wall Street than Main Street and from Republicans
that he favored improper government meddling in the economy.
However, his supporters credit him with sweeping efforts
that saved the global financial system from complete
collapse.
While Bernanke is expected to be confirmed for another term,
he seems certain to receive a high number of 'no' votes when
the full Senate takes up his nomination after it reconvenes
from a holiday break on Jan. 19.
Even some lawmakers who said they support Bernanke favor
trimming some of the Fed's authority over financial firms.
Bernanke's current term expires on Jan. 31, although he
could continue to serve as acting chairman even if his
nomination is not approved by then.

A government, of Israel, by Israel, and, for: Israel.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light:
for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. The light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended it not. The light of the body is the eye:
if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.
If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead,
and Christ shall give thee light. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
