Has anyone read Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way?

I read and worked through The Artist's Way last spring and early
summer. It is designed to be completed in 12 weeks. I found it
really useful in providing a framework for me to explore the issues
around using my creativity, or not using my creativity. I would
recommend it to anyone who wanted to use it. I do believe the most
important thing to keep in mind is the time commitment required.
I put it about an hour every day for the morning pages, a couple of
hours a week for the artitst's date, and then a variable amount of
time, up to another couple of hours, on the exercises she gives. I
didn't do all the exercises, but the ones which appealled to me.
I really feel the time I invested in the course was well worth it.
Best wishes
Marjorie

I read The Artist's Way last year, and wrote a review of it for a
newsletter I was writing for at the time. Cameron had an insight from
her work in a 12 step program which prompted her to teach people what
she understood about learning, healing and change to the area of
developing ones creative spirit. Her techniques are sound, very
effective, if a person is ready to make the effort needed. Her
approach differs from other programs that rely on brainstorming
techniques to spark off novel ideas. Hers is deeper, aims at the level
of character, and requires commitment.
Can you tell I liked her book? <grin>
Are you thinking of getting into it? If so, I don't think you can go
wrong.
Bright moments,
Dennis

Would you elaborate on "other creative sources" please?

A year or two ago I was subscribed to an Artist Way mailing list. I'm not
sure if it is still operational. Here are the instructions that I got to
unsubscribe. Perhaps you can figure out from here how to subscribe.
For the record, you unsubscribe from the list by sending mail to
and saying only
"unsubscribe aw"
Yes, I have read much of The Artist's Way. It is quite a good book,
with respect to leading to insight into creativity. It seems to be
based on a "twelve-step plan"--which may be because the author had a
drinking problem. (It's in the book.) I'm not sure how tight its
adherence to a classical, AA-style 12-step program might be, never
having been in one, but it is "12 steps." Twelve weeks.
The book is easy to work with in most respects, but there is one
aspect that is tough: Giving yourself what Cameron calls the "Artist
Date." This is two hours of non-work, all by yourself, to do just
anything you would like to do to stimulate the "artist" in you
without actually DOING your art. Sounds easy. However, it's the
easiest thing in the world to NOT do.
I tried the book for a while-- managed to get myself to do at least
the daily writing for some time. Then dropped it, because I found
myself UNABLE to do the "artist date." However, I think I may now be
ready to try again, so I'll be returning to the book this week.
Crossing my fingers.
She has a new book out, too, I just saw at a bookstore.
