We're in the process of removing several layers of old wallpaper in one
of the rooms in our new (80 yr old) house. We discovered that the wall is
half plaster, half drywall. That is, the top half of the wall is plaster, and
on the bottom 3.5 ft or so, the plaster and lath was cut out and replaced
with drywall. Once we get the wallpaper off, we intend to paint the entire
wall; but we're a little concerned about there being a noticable difference
in the way the paint looks on plaster vs. drywall. Should we use a primer
coat or do something else before painting to ensure an even finish?

TIA,
Renu

I don't think there will be a noticeable difference between the plaster
and drywall as long as the seams have been dealt with correctly. I also
live in an eighty year old house and there have been times that we needed
to replace part of the plaster in a room with drywall. After the room
was painted, there was no big difference between the two surfaces. My
husband was careful, however to tape the seams and sand them smooth.
Hope this helps.
