Has anyone painted their house with a Wagner power sprayer.
Any comment or tips would be appreciated. Particularly,
do you feel that you got as good a job as you would have if
you used a brush? Since the paint is thinner with a power
sprayer, will you need to repaint sooner?

Thanks,

we attempted when almost 1/2 done with our house the conventional way. We
soon realized we would need 2-3 more coats of paint than the traditional
way and who knows how long it would last. we wound up taking the sprayer
back to the store!

I painted my whole house with one. The model I used was a heavy duty model where the paint did not need
to be thinned out. I got a better job than with a brush
since I could lay the paint on heavier in a fraction of the time.

It depends on the kind of sprayer you have. if the "Wagner power sprayer"
is a particular model I don't know which one.
I wouldn't ever buy the handheld pistol type sprayer again. I have NEVER
been able to spray anything with it and have it work.
wagner does make larger airless sprayers that may work for you.
I bought a Campbell hausfield or hower you spell it, airless sprayer.
I sprayed exterior paint on an addition, interior paint in 1/2 my house
and 6 gallons of iron oxide primer and gloss oil based paint on a
steel and redwood deck.
I have run about 15 gallons of paint thru it, the only stuff that needed
to be thinned was the oil based gloss stuff I used on the deck and then
just the paint not the primer and only slightly.
to spray the 5 gallon buckets of paint and primer I used simply required
a paint mixer that fits on a drill and sticking the paint sprayer
intake and recirculation line in the buckets and spraying.
rollers and brushed leave a pattern, if that is what you are after you
won't get it from a sprayer.
it took me about an hour to paint the interior, I painted walls and
ceiling the same color.
I spent about 2 hrs masking before I painted and almost an hour to
clean the sprayer after I was done.
It took about 15 minutes to prime the one large room that needed it,
I waited about 30-45 minutes then painted everything in 45 minutes
or so.
I got a factory refurbished sprayer from northern hydraulic for about
$280 or so and have no regrets, I think it was money well spent.
I used as much or more paint/SQ FT as the cans say and have a nice
thick layer. If you want a thicker layer than you can spray in one
shot wait a few hours and hit it again.
you can even get airless sprayers that will spray concrete block
sealer unthinned if you deal in thick stuff a lot.

I used one and it worked ok. Unfortunately, we have house one color
and trim another. We spent a LOT more time making off, and covering up
with plastic than actual painting. Be aware, the overspray will go
a long way. I still have tiny white specks on my trunk, and it was a
good 50 ft from where we were spraying. Make sure you don't spray
your neighbors new <insert expensive car name here>.

I used the hose in the paint can, and had one of my kids follow me
around carrying the can. You will be refilling the small container
a lot if you don't use this. In addition the paint is usually
too thick out of the can. You need to thin it just enought to get it
to spray but not too much.

For me hand painting is sort of "mindless fun" without stress, where
the spray painting is much faster, but also much more "work".

I have an airless sprayer that is industrial grade. It puts out one-third of
a gallon per minute. Much faster than a brush. You can rent these from most
paint stores for about 50 bucks a day.
The wagoner is just a toy!
An industrial airless sprayer puts on about thirty percent more paint than a
brush so buy your paint accordingly.
With an airless sprayer you can paint the body of almost any house in one day.

Unless you planning on owining many houses I wouldn't buy a sprayer as they
cost around a thousand dollars.

Also, before you paint rent a powerwasher from the paint store and wash your
house first.

have fun!

Very slooowww. Does not put out much paint. BTW, several painters have
told me that all things being equal, brushing lasts longer and utilizes
paint more efficiently(less waste).
