A few weeks ago I read an article (related to frugality) that
talked about some good calling card companies, but I can't
recall the name of that company and I can't find the article
anymore. At the time, I did visit the company's website
and found that that they didn't have any minimum usage
requirement, any monthly charges, and you could use the
card from many different countries and the costs of the
calls were very competitive. All you had to do was provide
a credit card number and each month's usage would be
posted to the credit card.

I was wondering if anyone here knows the name of that
calling card company.

Thanks,
Anoop

Go to:

www.vistaprint.com

it's free.

Be aware, they have a number of stock designs, all of which are
informal, "artistic," etc -- i.e. not businesslike, and their
advertising for free cards are printed on the back. i./e., anyone to
whom you give your card will know you got them for free.

If you like kittens, sunsets, etc., go for it.

Those are business cards. He wants to make phone calls on calling cards.

I'm not sure why you have to give your credit card to anyone to get a
calling card. I just go to Walgreens and they have any price range you
are willing to pay and/or you can come back and recharge it. I guess I
could use my credit card in Walgreen in order to buy the card, but I
would rather pay for it with the cash on hand and that forces me to
limit my calls only for a good reason.

Can this card be used for making calls from outside the US?
I used to have a great calling card by a company called Voicenet.
They didn't require a credit card. I just used the 800 number/PIN
and could use the card as and when I needed from many different
countries. I'd get a monthly bill based on usage. Voicenet went
under several years ago and I haven't been able to find a similar
one since.

Funny you should ask. My present one does have International calls on
it. As I recall, when you dial the 800#, it gives you the nations/rates
for each country. I did not need mine for that, so I sort of jump
ahead, because I only call within the USA. And it is a Walgreen brand
card itself. [Sometimes they sell cards for other companies also.]

What you describe is the ability to call other countries from the US.
I was asking for a different capability - that of being able to use the
card from a different country. The calling card that I'm looking for
(and that I'm now kicking myself for not making a better note of when
I saw it the first time) had access numbers for using the card from
several countries.

I have been very happy with onesuite.com which is a prepay long
distance service where you dial a 1-800 number
I think it is 1.9 cents a minute in the US, much cheaper than cards you
get at stores. You recharge your account using a credit card at their
website. There is only the flat fee of minutes no additional charges
for anything and checking their website they do now have international
access numbers for people traveling and competitive rates for calling
abroad. I got rid of long distance on my phone which was at least a $10
a month fee plus the price of the calls. Now we spend maybe $10 every
4-5 months on long distance, a huge savings (plus added free bonus of
cancelling long distance and having them ask if there was anything they
could do to keep our business - I said to beat 1.9 cents a minute). It
is a 1-800 number and it allows you to save your pin number so you
don't have to dial it in from home. You can print out a business card
size cheat sheet for traveling. It tells you how much money and how
many minutes you have left whenever you make a call. I've used it for
at least 2 years with no complaints.
Hope that saves people some money!

OK one more try...A GREEN DOT. You can also get them at Walgreens. You
can put any amt of money on them. Parents give them to kids going on a
trip. It is 'only' good for the amt of money on the card itself. They
can not go over that amt.
It is sort of like a temporary Visa or Mastercard...[which is what they
really are] except they are GREEN DOT.

But these are not just for phone calls. They can be used any where
that uses credit cards. The other good thing, if you lose it or someone
steals it, it is only good for the amt on that card. So no fear of
someone ripping it off from anything above the amt on the card. Each
time you use it, it will tell the cashier what you have left.

Wow. 1.9c/min is pretty hard to beat. The only viable competitor
would be Skype, but Skype probably wouldn't be as convenient
while travelling.

Incidentally, I found the calling card that I mentioned in my
other post. It's called Cognicall. The rate is 6.9c/min for
US-US calls, which, although not cheap, is still OK. The
big advantage is being able to use it when abroad.

PLEASE use caution with Vistaprint.com. Yes, you will get your free
cards (with an ad for themselves printed on the back) but:

1. You have to pay shipping and you would think they were shipping lead
bricks for what they charge for some items. Their "slow" shipping (yes,
they actually call it that) is the cheapest and will get it there is
plenty of time. They seem to use "shipping" as a way to make back
part of the money the "free" product cost.

2. You will received tons of e-mail from Vistaprint (almost daily) with
new gimmics. They must have a staff of 20 just to think of new reasons
to send e-mails. They have "Grand Re-Opening" sales (when did they
close?) and "October" sales and "Please FIll Our A Survey" sales and
"Someone Peed on the Carpet in the Office" sales. All pitch you
exciting "free" items that will just cost you shipping, which makes
many of the free items not worth it in the end.

SO, feel free to get your business cards, just don't fall for the
pressure on their site to add more items to your business card order
(labels, envelopes, note cards, tampons, they will try and pitch
anything) and be ready for plenty of e-mail begging you to come back.

I've been there. You have to weigh all of this before you order.

I've ordered from them twice and have had no problems at all.
I got no spam. The shipping took maybe a week. I did order the labels as
well as the business cards and am glad I did.

I see someone else has mentioned OneSuite.

I like OneSuite.
Want to call from OUTSIDE USA?
Incredibly low long distance phone rates. As low as USA-Canada 1.9CPM!
Works as
prepaid phone card. PIN not needed for calls from home or cell phone.
Compare
the rates at https://www.OneSuite.com No monthly fee or minimum. Use
Promotion/SuiteTreat Code:
"FREEoffer23" for FREE time.
Altho from USA payphones there is a connection fee, there is NONE from
other
phones or Canadian payphones. Also works FROM many other countries.

As far as Vistaprint for business cardboard cards;
What a scam. $4.95 to ship the cards. AND they have an ad for vista at
the back of everyone.
In NYC businesses PAY people to give out flyers and cards on the street.
