Well, whether I like it or not, I'm still part of the Homo Sapiens
Sapiens (aka. the human race). But those words were spoken by Kirk
Douglas in this movie that provoked in me an outburst of emotions...

The movie in question is "Paths of Glory," based on real events that
happened in WWI in France. In reality it could have happened anywhere,
even in the recent war in Iraq. The hierarchy of the military --the
old men looking for glory and power-- send young men to die, and when
they miraculously escaped from the enemy they are tried for treason
and killed by their own army. The movie is so powerful, so raw, that
was forbidden in France (the mother of modern democracy) for 10 years.

Here I quote a review:

"One of Kubrick's best, strangely, is rarely mentioned. Simply
devastating. I've read that this film was outlawed in France for over
a decade because of it's damning portrayal. Lays bare the insanity of
romantic notions of war. Jim Thompson (the famous pulp noir writer) co
wrote the screenplay. Unlike other Kubrick films steely
objectivity, there are some very human moments. The ending is perhaps
Kubricks most emotional scene filmed."

***

But I guess we could learn a few lessons from it:

a) democracy is a piece of shit unless the people participate in it
and MAKE NOISE

b) never trust the hierarchy

c) never indulge in glorifying war

I would have turned my rifle against myself or against the military
itself if I had been comrade in arms with those poor souls. At one
point, one of those condemned to death punches the priest that comes
to wish them the best. Well done, I say.

You may watch sections of the movie in YouTube...

Try getting me out of the cage, preferably by bike. It could actually
be a motorcycle too. I really miss them, but I've seen too many
accidents with reckless drivers.

The moral of the story is: NEVER PUT THE MONKEY IN THE CAGE!

What else, a nuclear weapon? I make this challenge to you...

THE BANANA IS THE BEST WEAPON EVER DEVISED, CLEARLY SUPERIOR TO
NUCLEAR WEAPONS! If you don't believe me, I challenge anyone with a
nuclear weapon to step forward. ;)
