From the one year old article:

"Now that patients have to share the pain with huge deductibles, we all are acutely aware of the cost and many don’t have the few thousand dollars socked away to meet those deductibles year after year.

Since the system is not set up for you to “shop” and incentives are not in place for the health care system to control your cost, you must do what you can to hold the health care system accountable."

Is this article about ObamaCare?? I don't have it as my insurance is through
AARP but I have no 'huge deductibles' nor do I have to 'meet any deductibles
year after year.

Are you 65 or older? Then you are using Medicare support. Killing
Obamacare won't affect you, but the cuts to Medicare and Social Security
that come next may well affect you.

I am paying for Medicare. Those 'cuts to Medicare and Social Security' are
just budget proposals for now. Nothing is in stone and it will be debated
to death and finagled with everyone wanting to make changes.

I don't understand any of this shit.

Just pray my perfect health holds year after year.

That's right, it depends on what plan you actually have. Sounds like yours
has lower deductibles. If you have health insurance through employers,
those with a good job with a good employer generally have low deductibles.
Obamacare on the other hand, for those that need it, the deductibles are
like $6K+ a year. It sounds to me similar to what catastrophic coverage
used to be. Also factor in that as of now, the GOP killed the mandate
and there is still coverage for pre-existing conditions. So, who would
buy insurance with high deductiblles? Mostly the sick, who know they will
exceed it. Those that know they won't will mostly go uninsured, figuring
that if they get some condition that will cost a lot, they can then sign
up for Obamacare. That works unless it's some sudden illness that nees
immediate, expensive treatment, since you can only sign up for Obamacare
during periods once a year.

Well, at least you didn't stack the deck against you by taking a bunch
of street drugs in your youth.

When I was employed we were offered different plans to choose from, all of
them were HMO's. One or two was a health spending account if I remember
correctly but I never chose that type. What I have now is a PPO.

My company offered to let me keep what I had when employed but it was
ridiculously expensive. I opted out of that option as it was more than
double what I'm paying now.

I've lost like 40 lbs really quick like and I don't know why.

But I am pretty sure it means I am getting healthier.

If nothing has changed - eating habits, exercise level, stress levels,
etc, this might be something to talk to your doctor about. It could
indicate a serious problem. Hopefully, some positive change in your life
is the cause.

I don't have a doctor and haven't seen one in almost 30 years.

I did go on a quick diet/exercise binge that lasted like a month last year.

And endless dental problems.

Meaning to get back on the bike, but 16 hour days most of this year, followed by a week trip abroad, then being bedridden most of the week afterwards, then still a little sick, then depressed.

Maybe next week.

Dropping dead is barely in the top ten of things I am concerned about. No longer qualifying for housing tops the list.

Doesn't sound like "perfect health" to me.

It is kind of sad to see people who think that their health will always
be good. Eventually, most of them will likely have a strong need for
doctor's help. Disease and accidents happen.

What do you mean "No longer qualifying for housing tops the list"? I
thought you were making a lot of money these days.

Means there is no housing I can afford should I lose my far below market place and no one who would rent to me.

And my income is dropping fast. I think. Hard to even get a real time handle on it. But the various loopholes and market conditions I am exploiting are closing fast and it's back to Povertyville.

But no idea what to do about "health care" or even time to mess with it.

If your income is very low, and you are in a state with medicaid,
Obamacare is very much worth checking out. As long as it lasts. But It
is probably too late to sign up for this year.

Small island. Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.

Good point and there would just be standing room only if we all en masse
emigrated there.
