We heat our home with a radiant heat source. Just like the Sun, that
heats the Earth w/o heating the air in between. Radiant heat heats the
objects in your space and prevents you from losing your heat to them.
Very, in fact, the most efficient way to heat a space.
Look into it. Then you won't have to spend so much to be comfortable.

Umm, there is no air to speak of between the earth and the sun, space is
largely a vacuum.

Andy comments:
That's why there is no energy loss in absorption between the Sun
and the Earth's atmosphere, which is air..... which is what Mr K
is talking about...

Typically, the sun puts about 1000 watts per sq meter on the
earth's surface, AFTER atmospheric absorption....
That's what makes solar cells work, and attics hot....

Yes, that's point I was trying to make, there's no atmosphere in space,
but there is atmosphere in your house which would tend reduce the
efficiency of a radiant heat source.

if you live in a moderate climate and want to be frugal, heat pumps
are far more efficient (in terms of BTUs per dollar) than is radiant
electrical heating.

In practice it doesnt. There is so little air between you and the radiant
source in your house that the air doesnt even get heated much that way.

That depends on how big the area you are in is.

If its very large, its still more efficient to heat just the person with
a radiant heater than to try to heat the entire area with a heat pump.

My sister, who lives in the upper midwest put in a heat pump using the
ground water for a source of heat and has reduced her heating costs.
She has several acres and was able to install the deep wells.

yes, water cycle heat pumps are more efficient than air cycle
heat pumps. water cycle heat pumps initially cost more to
install than air cycle heat pumps. also, air cycle heat pumps
probably cost more initially than electrical (radiant) heating
systems? maybe mr. k can give us his cost (and size).

In article <j8s7tp$ora$1...@dont-email.me>,
I just opened my outer air lock door and there was lots of air outside
and most of it was between me and the sun . It doesn't get heated by the
sun. only by objects heated by the radiating sun.
BTW, my radiant heat source is a wood stove and the wood is stored solar
energy. I keep my eyes peeled for free word and I have never bought a
stick. Use some of the ashes in the garden. too.
Where's my parade?
