Am I the only one who is surprised at how expensive they've become?

That's because no one but you probably has a need for them.

I found a stack recently with some that were obviously used which I have been meaning to flip thru and see what's on them. If you were in So Cal I might be able to offer some moderately used but still excellent condition cassettes. Mostly 90's.

They get brittle with age as do videotapes for the old VCR's.

Yet I have 40 year old tapes that play fine.

I just dumped about 20 VCR tapes yesterday into the recycle bin.

For awhile I was selling Maxell XL-II 90's, mostly from 1995-2000, recorded on once and often only played once. Tapes in good condition can be reused and also the parts can be used to restore older tapes.

VHS is mostly junk though unless you have something rare/private (like a filmed event not broadcast).

In article <64f1c853-9b0c-4e7a...@googlegroups.com>,
I haven't dumped all the VHS here yet. Still have two T-180 in shrink wrap.

When I re-unboxed my only VCR I discovered that it would not play any tape. It's a Sears model from the early 1990's. It worked when I boxed it up after getting DVD/HDD recorders circa 2008.
