The good news is that my housing expenses are covered, I have enough food to
last me a while, there are no bills due until February 21st, and I have $10
left for things like laundry.
So I guess my real problem--bearing in mind that I don't know when I'm going
to have money again--is entertainment. Reading 50-cent discard-rack books
and watching TV gets to be old after a while.
Instead of asking what you think I should do with myself until and unless I
get money again, let me ask: What would _you_ do with yourself in my
situation?

Go to the library and surf the net. Go hiking if there are trails you can get
to. If it was summer I'd say learn how to make blackberry pie from wild
berries, the ingredients are cheap enough if you do it all from scratch. I
remember too well being hungry, lonely, bored and broke. The bad old days.
This was well before the internet had been invented and before the mass
production of personal computers.
The library is a great resource -- read magazines, read the local
paper and see what's going on that's free.
What have you always wanted to do? Find an organization that does it,
and volunteer.
Are you near any colleges? They frequently have free films or
lectures on interesting subjects. When I was in a similar position to
yours, I went to a fabulous presentation by Curtis Sliwa, who founded
that group that patrols subways, etc., in large cities -- the name
escapes me right now. Heard some amazing stories and learned a little
something about self defense as well.

The end of an error
I dont bother with anything except books and free to air TV and the very
occasional downloaded TV program, just when I've missed something.
So I wouldnt have to do a damned thing.
That would be the Guardian Angels, perhaps?

Check out DVDs and Videos from the library. Actually do this even when
you do have money.
