Pepsi is my one sin. I was wondering if there is a less expensive
substitute. I can easily tell the different between coke and pepsi.
Pepsi is not as sweet, and it seems to have more carbonation. I like
their 24 oz bottles. In the area I live there is Fago brand, but the
rest are house brands.

I didn't mind RC Cola when there wasn't Pepsi nearby. I'm also a
"Pepsi" sinner so I understand your question. Also thought Shasta was
ok as I recall.

I second that; Publix cola isn't bad.

Switch to the Publix Lemon-Lime seltzer water. No calories, no
artificial sugar, lots of carbonation bite, and much less expensive.

I can't tolerate Pepsi or any of the soft drinks with wood oils in
them. With the exception of maple syrup, I don't drink trees.

If you want a rock bottom priced soda, try home-made root beer.

Since I put together my keg system for beer, I've also started making
and kegging root beer for my kids. One advantage is that you can tune
the amount of sugar (cane sugar, not HFCS) and flavor extract to your
taste. A disadvantage is that you can't just count cans to gauge how
much soda your kids are drinking.

Anyway, for a 4.5 gallon batch, it takes 1 bottle of extract (many
different flavors available, about US$5 ea.) and 7-8 cups of sugar.
Also some yeast if you are bottling, but I keg it and use CO2 to force
carbonate.

Try dandelion & burdock. Its a related flavour, and tbh nicer. And of
course no huge ad budget to pay for.
