It just keeps getting worse. I wonder why this group gets so much more than
others?

Presumably the name makes the stupidest spammers decide that
many of the readers will actually be stupid enough to read their spam.

It depends on how you cook the spam. I prefer some barbeque sauce and
onions and fry it. Not sure if I heard of spam killing anyone though.

You can avoid worthless content on a TV by never tuning to worthless
channels.

A killfile gives you similar control over newsgroups. For example,
killfile everything from the top newsgroup spam source--Google
Groups--and that spam won't be visible. How to do that depends on your
newsreader. Outlook might not be able to do it. Certainly there are
plenty of free news clients that can.

I agree, I follow many groups and something weird has taken over this
one. I notice it is often linked from groups.google.com , so maybe
that's where it's starting from. There is too much to report. We need
a moderated group. Anyone know how to create one?

its unfortunate about the spam, check this

seems limited as to what they will do but its worth a shot.

A good helping of habanero-based sauce will help cover the taste.

Haven't tried Turkey SPAM, have you? Better than Ex-Lax. And I'm not
referring to the flavor...

Sure. Who wants to be the moderator? And be chained to the group for the
rest of your life, deleting the SPAM from a dedicated mail box, editing
the approved messages to insert an approval code, and forwarding the
approved messages to the group?

Or just run away from the group, leaving yet another dead moderated
group. Once that happens it's not easy for someone else to take over a
moderated group when the existing moderator just abandons the process
and disappears. That process can take months.

If anyone wants to seriously consider doing it though visit the group:

alt.config

to begin the proposal process.

Spam isn't the problem with usenet, it's the loons. Check out what happened
to rec.bicycles.off-road.

Spam is easy to recognize and skip. Loons can be killfiled (dear lord when
will thunderbird get REAL filters for newsgroups, making it possible to
eliminate any postings originating from googlegroups?).

Nobody ever said it would be easy!

No perhaps about it, presumably because its easier to
setup than a conventional news client and news server.

It makes more sense to just ignore the spam. It isnt hard to work out what is spam.

People who are unwilling or too dumb to do something a better way aren't
likely to say anything I want to hear.

Of course not, but if you've skipped your usenet obligations for a few
weeks, the sheer quantity is annoying.

Mindlessly superficial/prejudiced.

I've got more important things to get annoyed about.

I'm sorry, I forgot to get your permission. Next time I'll be sure to check
with you at least a month in advance.

Buy anything that appeals to you. Don't buy anything that doesn't look
good. That about covers it.

Long ago I bought some Brie that had a strong ammonia smell/taste. They
cheerfully refunded my money. Recently I tried a sample of their 'Mojito'
(non-alcoholic) stuff -- the first TJ thing I've ever found to be absolutely
revolting.

Their ordinary corn tortillas are the best machine-made tortillas I've ever
eaten except for the ones we bought still hot from a place in Mexico. The
hand-made ones are bigger, but not all that different. Their plain
cheesecake is excellent. Cut it into serving-size pieces and freeze it in
the box it came in.

Wine people say that their "Two buck Chuck" is drinkable. I've never tasted
wine better than plain old Welch's grape juice, so I'll have to take their
word for it. Lots of other wine if that's your thing. Good cheese. Good
chicken+cranberry+pecan salad like the stuff that Costco sells, but in
smaller quantities.

There are only three places I actually like to shop: Costco, TJ's and the
99-Cents-Only Store, not necessarily in that order. And the ethnic produce
stores too. FIVE places I like to shop...

I'll probably never get to Costco's....it's about 30 miles up in the
congested suburbs, screw em.
