Read anything about the flap over Viacom getting a court to order Google to
turn over its records on everyone who's used You Tube and what they've
posted and watched? If you want your private stuff to stay private, don't
put it in someone else's hands. This is supposedly a free service. Think a
minute - providing this service costs someone money, and somehow they have
to get it back and probably turn a profit. How are they going to do that
when they give away their product?

Nope - not a chance.

How is the Viacom/Youtube lawsuit related to a "expenses tracking"
site? I'd say this is apples and oranges.

i'm not sure what they offer, but if it's on the net it is less secure
than if you are using a program on your computer. i do use internet
banking, but at the bank's site only. i would never give my bank
information to any third party.

are your finances so complex that you really need this?

No way, just consider how it does:

"...and seeks money-saving offers for you"

Missed this, think about how it can't retrieve your data but can analyze
all of your transactions, seems like they brought Miss Cleo out of
retirement :

"...and can't retrieve that data. Once I signed up and entered the
log-in info for my bank account and credit cards, the service combed
through my financial information and displayed my assets and debts in
total and for each account, categorized my transactions, set up budgets..."

Better yet, are you naive enough to provide a third-party online site
with personal information?

I got a call yesterday from a spoofed Caller ID number offering to
consolidate my credit card debt. I played along and after I assured
myself they had no idea what number they were calling I spent several
minutes giving them completely false information. I could hear the
excitement in the callers voice as he anticipated a reward. It ended this
way:

"I imagine a lot of people are rude or hang up the phone when you call"

"yes"

"Do you realize that those people are doing you a favor because it
allows you to move on to the next victim? Your worst enemy is someone
like me who knows at the start that you are engaged in fraud ,identity
theft and violating the Do Not Call law and therefore wastes your time
with bogus information"

"(long rant involving at least 5 of of the 7 words banned by the FCC
followed by slamming down the phone).

No..... but I'm attracted to the automation aspect of
Mint

Basically it sounds like I wouldn't have to save any
receipts thruout the day and set down at PC at night to
enter them in Quicken

I do know Clark Howard swears buy them..for what that's
worth

The point being that, no matter what the policy of this company, no matter
how honest, upstanding, and well intentioned they may be, now and
indefinitely far into the future, the details of your financial life could
be up for grabs and end up in the hands of anyone who can afford a good
enough lawyer.

Its interesting that anyone with a cold and aloof name like
"m...@privacy.net" would even consider this.

Oh sure - I'm going to let a third party in on my financial matters?
No WAY - Quicken has been my friend for years.

I'd go back to a paper and pencil system before I'd go with this
outfit.
