Hi all,

Most of the time I buy King Size fitted sheets they are much too
loose. How to alter the seams so it fits tighter?

I'm sure you could sew a pleat in there to fit better. Experiment with
a wide stitch that can easily be removed. Once you have the ideal, go
with it.

You could pin them at the corners down low. That works, but it's more
effort.

I know that the quality of mattress makes a difference too. Now that I
switched to a better product, I found that all the fitted sheets are
tighter as the mattress is fatter.

You could shrink them in the dryer.

If you don't have a king sized bed and insist on buying oversize
sheets, well, ...duh.

Seams? I didn't know sheets had seams.

Got a buttonhole maker and some shoelaces? Put two buttonholes in each
corner such that when you run a shoelace through them and tie it the
sheet will fit as tightly as you want.

The pins will probably also tear the sheet.

I just bought the 12" memory foam mattress from Costco. The sheets I
bought for it fit up to a 17" mattress. Oh well.

The following is handy for any size fitted bed sheets. First match right sides
together and match tops if needed. (Right sides together means when you open
the sheets for sleep, the more comfortable and attractive face of the fabric is
exposed.) Then sew bottom hem of top sheet to bottom end of fitted sheet.
(Match centers and pin carefully. Yes, top sheet will be sown to bottom of
sides.) Now starts the fun. Start bottom center of the fitted sheet, use
zig-zag setting on sewing machine or some other stitch intended for sewing knit,
sew elastic at full stretch to entire hem of the fitted sheet. End result is
the top sheet no longer works loose as easily and the bottom sheet tightly holds
position on the mattress. This will work on mattresses that maintain shape.
mattresses such as futon or feather tick will bunch. If using wool/ poly fill
futon or feather tick, stretch elastic only enough to match size of the
mattresses/ tick being used.

I can also provide information on creating your own wool/ poly fiber futon or
feather tick if desired.
