Any good/bad experiences with them? They have good CD rates. My SF agent
today told me I could withdraw money from a CD at any time with no penalty.
I said I wanted to see that in writing which he could not do.

His answer tells you all you need to know. You might want to remind
him that federal regulations require that banks provide detailed
information on rates and penalties.

http://www.statefarm.com/bank/disclosures/d_cdterm.asp

# Early Withdrawal Penalties. If State Farm Bank allows a withdrawal,
either partial or total, each time it allows such a withdrawal,
depositor may be assessed an early withdrawal penalty as set forth in
the Certificates of Deposit section under the TRUTH IN SAVINGS DISCLOSURES.

I think it may be a bad agent then. My local SF agents have been
nothing but helpful and I usually leave with far too much paperwork
then I could ever read through and they have always been honest. I
think they may push products on occasion, but they would never lie to
sell the product. I originally started with SF insurance over a
decade ago because they were the only ones that would give me a
reasonable rate on an electronics rider for an apartment policy ( I
was a geek with several computers ).

If you can withdraw it at any time, it's not a cd, it is a demand
account. He is either mistaken or lying. I would check elsewhere.
Money magazine just listed e-trade bank as having really good rates
for savings and checking accounts.

I use Emigrant Direct and get over 5% and can take out $ any time.
They also have a credit card that gives you 1.4% cash back on all
purchases if you keep $10k in their savings account.

I also have a savings account at H&R Block bank that is paying 5.25%,
but that is a special rate for tax clients, and I can take out cash
any time.

Also, keep in mind that cd's say that there "may" be substantial
penalty for early withdrawal. It is one of those bank charges that
financial institutions can wave if you ask.

My credit union always a portion of the CD to be withdrawn during the

I guess it depends on the term & remaining days and possibly amount as
mine currently range from 10-60% available with not a lot of obvious
logic to the amount.

I don't think that state farm bank, and state farm
insurance are the same, are they? State farm
insurance in Florida is not good.

The bank is part of the parent insurance company.

With all the zillions State Farm is making at cheating and delaying
Hurricane Katrina victims, they should be able to pay enormous rates.
Nevermind the flood damage vs. storm damage debate, they were paying
their engineering firm to lie about wind speeds, and holding up claims
miles inland where flood waters never reached. They delayed their
claimants until they were desperate, and then give them chump change
for a release of liability. The agents? Sure they're nice, until you
have a big claim. Then the fangs come out. Check out the CNN
documentary.-Jitney

State Farm is skum. I paid them for many years for auto insurance. In
full, one time. Not once did I miss a payment or even be late for one. I
got into an accident (no injuries and no damage to the other vehicle,
but my fault). State Farm paid to have my car fixed, then when my policy
came up for renewal, they dropped me like a hot potato. In NJ where I
live, if your auto insurance company drops you, none of the other
carriers will talk to you. I ended up going into assigned risk and
getting reamed out the you know what for a couple of years as a result
of State Farm. As a result, I won't touch them with a ten foot poll, and
that includes their bank.

Clap, clap, clap. You met your obligations of a business deal that you
agreed to.

No, you got into that situation as a result of your at-fault accident.

Since SF did pay your claim as agreed so they held their end of the deal.
This isn't even close to the Katrina allegations.
