Tempur-pedic/ Tempurpedic question

We are thinking of buying of Tempur pedic type matteress.

If anyone in this group is using one...
Would you pls let us know your thoughts.

Tempur pedic is quite expensive. We have heard that many companies
now have very similar products in the marketplace and at more
reasonable prices.
Can anyone who has experience / is knowledgeable about this, pls let
us know.

What brand is the best value for money ?

We need a Queen and live in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA.
Any particular outlet/store that has the best deals ?

Any thoughts/ suggestions/ ideas /pointers would be highly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Ayesha Hill

We already had a pillowtop mattress we loved, but a year ago DH bought a 3'
thick king-size tempurpedic topper for the bed. It comes with its own cover
and fits under a pillowtop mattress pad. I thought the bed was great before,
but with the topper it's complete bliss. I'm a night person so going to bed
at a reasonable hour has always been tough, but this new bed setup makes me
want to go to bed early!

A married couple who I have known for many years about one. Both husband
and wife love it. I tried laying down on their bed and it didn't take
but a couple of minutes for me to realize its not for me. It seems to
reflect body heat, which I would not like at all. YMMV.

We looked at them, and the knock-offs, which are much cheaper. We
decided to go with a 6" thick med/high density foam pad over plywood
foundation instead. The savings was substantial, and I'd had enough
of multi-ton pillow top mattresses which were supposed to be turned
and flipped as regularly as hamburgers on a grill.

We plan to avoid the multi-ton king mattress by
buying twins, and keeping them together with mattress pad, bottom sheet,
etc. We were going to try to avoid buying the bottom portion but when we
priced the twin tops only, the price given was the same as if it included
the bottom frame. What's up with that?

My Wife and I had one for about a year I have back problems and this
did not help at all, it was too soft.

Depends on the model you are looking at. We bought the one below the top
model and I love it. I haven't had a night full of dreaming for about 7-8
years because our super-expensive (more than tempurpedic!) pillow top was
junk...

Now I sleep through the night, dream and wake up refreshed more than before.
If I had the money, I would go for the top of the line, but at something
like $7,000 or $8,000 for a King... It was a bit out of my league.

We tried the knock-offs and either found them to be too soft, not stable
enough, or simply unattractive for other reasons. You can probably find a
suitable alternate but I break EVERYTHING so I wanted the guarantee that the
Tempurpedic folks offer.

A search via Google for reviews shows that most everyone is pleased with
them - but that may be because they feel obligated to say positive stuff
about an expensive product.

It gets better. Many places won't honor the guarantee for the top
unless you buy and use the foundation. That was one of the final
straws for us. Take your cheap box springs and...
