CPSC, Pottery Barn Kids Announce Recall of Chamois Blankets
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm
below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately
unless otherwise instructed.
Name of product: Chamois Blankets
Units: About 92,000
Manufacturer: Pottery Barn Kids, of San Francisco, Calif.
Hazard: The decorative stitching on the blanket's edge can come loose,
allowing a child to become entangled in the yarn. This poses a
strangulation hazard to young children.
Incidents/Injuries: Pottery Barn Kids has received four reports of
incidents involving the decorative stitching coming loose. No injuries
have been reported.
Description: This recall involves children's chamois blankets made of
100% polyester. The blankets were sold in yellow, pink, blue and
green, and the reverse side of all the blankets are white. Decorative
yarn in a coordinating color is stitched around the blanket's edge.
The blanket measures 30-inches wide by 40-inches long and are labeled
for stroller use. A label on the blanket reads "pottery barn kids" and
"Made in Korea."
Sold at: Pottery Barn Kids' stores nationwide, through the Pottery
Barn catalog, and PotteryBarnKids.com from December 2002 through
December 2004 for about $30.
Manufactured in: Korea.
Remedy: Consumers can remove the decorative stitching or contact
Pottery Barn Kids for information on how to receive a replacement or
refund.
