Make a beautiful junk mail painting! - What a wonderful gift for the holidays
at no cost to you!
I get such pleasure having guests into my home! Over the years I've learned,
that you can have almost any decorating look you want, with little or no extra
money! I use items like; basement/attic stashes, yard sale finds, auction
bargains (usually $1 for a box full of stuff!), or roadside shopping (better
known as trash picking, my personal favorite =).
There's a real since of accomplishment when people says things like - Oh I just
love your home - who does your decorating? Where on earth did you get this?
This antique must be very valuable! Where did you find such a lovely piece?
It's at moments like these, that I know my home can look just as beautiful as
the ones who spend 1000's of dollars on decorating!
I'd have to say one of my most loved pieces, is the oil painting hanging in my
front parlor! It's a large picture of a beautiful home in the forest, with the
most picturesque landscaping you could imagine! There are streams that follow
the moss covered stone paths, victorian statues, rose covered arbors, water
lilies, golden fish swimming about, ornate garden benches, piles of blooming
flowers, ferns everywhere, and the most lovely little bird cages! This paradise
almost looks like a secret garden belonging to a princess! The thick ornate
victorian frame really adds the finishing touch!
When I tell my visitors that I'm the artist of that particular piece, they
almost always respond with an unbelieving mouth open! You see I've always
wanted to paint, and be able to put my dreams on canvas! I believe there's an
artist inside of all of us, all we have to do is find a way to release it!
Because my talent does not yet reach that of an artist who can really paint, I
"paint" with the materials at hand! This is what I want to teach you today. You
will be able to achieve almost any look you desire, for no extra money!
I'd like for you to think for a moment, on what it is you'd like to express. Is
it a beautiful home, a garden to stroll through, a landscape by the sea, a
secret pathway leading to a romantic cottage? Anything your mind can dream, you
can have as beautiful art for your home!
How is this possible you ask? By using junk mail, magazines, catalogues, post
cards, seed catalogues, or anything you have around the house. You start by
going through your pile of material with a pair of scissors. You simply cut out
everything that you love! If it's only a plant, tree, flower pot, shrub, house,
whatever - cut it out.
Check out this site for 100's of free catalogues! You can find any type of
pictures you want to add to your painting! I used Petals, & Design Toscano
Classics - they have tons of beautiful garden pictures & home design stuff!

Now - find a piece of cardboard, stiff paper, poster board, thin wood, etc.. to
use as your backing. You might want to find a frame and fit the backing to a
frame you already have, or pick one up at a sale or something later.
Lay out the pictures on a large surface and see if some of them really stand
out to you. As you pick the ones you want to start with, you will see a theme
developing. Now - look at the size and dimension of the pictures. Do they look
like they're far away or close to you. What you're looking to do, is position
the clippings so that they are in the same proportion as an actual picture. You
don't want a person who is 1 inch right in front and a gazebo that it 6 inches
in the background. This would look like the person is a micro being compared to
the size of the gazebo! Because we're using photographs, the shading and
shadows are already present. That's why the finished piece looks realistic.
You now lay out the pictures on the backing as you think you will want them.
How do they look? Does it look like a real picture? Take some time to move
things around till you're satisfied with the results. If you have open spaces
that need filled, simply cut out a piece of a picture that has the same color
(I did this with alot of my forest & grass) and tuck it under the top pieces.
You can use white glue with a little water mixed in, decoupage glue, or any
type of adhesive you may have to apply the top layer to the bottom. When you
have the painting as you want it you may want to add a few final touches.
Use a bit of stain, coffee, shoe polish, watered down brown paint etc.... to
brush over the entire piece then wipe off as desired. This will give it an
antique look, and blend in the separate pieces of paper. Let this dry for a
while. Then you "must" sign your piece ;) The next step is - brush a layer or
two of the same stuff you used to glue the top down as a top coat. I used white
glue with a bit of water to make it easier to spread (this makes it a real
cinch to wipe the painting clean). Now your piece looks like an oil painting!
With all the edges of the individual pieces of paper - the stain brushed in,
then the top coats of glue, it really looks like a brushed oil painting!
I used 38 individual pieces in my painting, then framed it in a beautiful large
frame that I found for $6 at a yard sale! This piece is one that will be passed
down through my family & all it took was a big imagination and a little time!
Just think of all the mouths that will be open at your home, when you tell them
that you where the artist ;) I know you can do this for your home, take some
time out and get started today - you'll thank me for it!

Ya know, this glowing recommendation of piecing together little pictures of
crap into one big picture of crap got me to thinking...
- For Immediate Release -
A little while back I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are
now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make
thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of
$6.00!
Yes, you too can write a wonderful novel, that will be cherished and handed
down in you family for generations. Simply save all your junk mail, spam mail,
newsgroup postings, advertisements and free newspapers.
Take a pair of our magical cut-n-paste scissors and cut out all the paragraphs
that you like. When you have a document filled, just arrange the paragraphs in
a pleasing order and glue them together. With a little patience you can come
up with the great American novel worth thousands of dollars!!!
Here are some real starter paragraphs that I clipped. I only added two,
otherwise they are in original form. I spent a minimal amount of time selecting
and arranging them so imagine what you can do with your own cut-n-paste novel.
For those that have difficulty with free association, the last paragraph is a
more traditional joke that I shamelessly lifted because it made me wet my
pants:
** Getting annoyed by those pesky system messages in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0?
Just looking at it in a crystal-clear decanter fills me with a
glorious sense of anticipation. When the stopper is removed
and the gorgeous liquid is poured into my glass, I inhale the
enchanting aroma and I'm lifted on the wings of ecstasy. It
seems as though I'm about to drink a magic potion and my
whole being begins to glow. The sound of a thousand violins
being softly played fills my ears and I'm transported into another
world."
Back in my US Army days I actually heard someone (my Plt. Sgt IIRC) use fuck
in all parts of speech in the same sentence: Fuck! The fucking fuckers fucking
fucked! Fuck!
* What we're telling your small business customers about the Year 2000 issue.
A traditional steam locomotive wastes a great deal of energy in steam that
is blown out the stack from the cylinders. There isn't a way to extract that
energy and get mechanical work out of it in an economical fashion.

Q. What are pre-existing conditions?
I've searched around the appropriate news groups and have seen similar
questions but never definitive answers. Here is a sample code fragment I found
on the Mastering VB CD. (with a few modifications)

Does anyone know which (if any) of the low-end UPS's are easily adaptable for
this? For example, do they come with an external battery connector, or do you
have rig it yourself? Are the batteries that go inside also 12V (making it

Oh,and how about the 'dragnet' theme, too?
my mom used to sing me to sleep with that one.... snif...
Doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo ...
(You have to imagine the Enterprise whisking through that)
We whisk through a lot of that stepping out our back door. Why? We
have chickens and goats that run loose on the property.
