The skin on my hands & feet get subjected to rough treatment -- ill
fitting custom orthotics, knuckle pushups, lots of wringing of
towels. I use ye olde vaseline liberally. However, some people have
recommended Corn Huskers. The main difference with vaseline is that
it Corn Huskers uses glycerine rather than petrolatum. In Canada,
this is advantageous because we don't have the same regulation of
petrolatum as other developed nations, which means there are no
controls on the grade of petrolatum used. This in turn means that
there is an unknown risk of contamination by "PAH" (I won't quote the
full chemical name because I'm not sure how meaningful it is to most
readers -- it was meaningless to me).
Regarding Corn Huskers in Canada, the same effect is obtained by
choosing any skin softener that relies primarily on glycerine. I was
hoping that there would be a household brandname, but the person at
the pharmacy was unaware of any. I will have to visit a pharmacy on a
non-holiday and look over the options. Meantime, can someone
recommend a simple workhorse skin softener based on glycerine that is
available retailly in Canada? I am not a fan of online purchasing
when it comes to consumables.
