I Am Through With My Current Phone Carrier

I am done with my current carrier, MetroPCS. The only reason I had them
was because they had cheap rates to a particular country I was calling: 5
cents per minute at any hour of the day.

But nowadays, I call and no connection is made, but I still get charged for
the time I spend on the phone waiting to hear a ring-ring that I will never
hear. I can't figure out if it is the carrier in the foreign country or my
carrier. I called the service and complained about what was going on, the
rep did not understand, then I asked to speak to a supervisor, and hung up
after 10 minutes when no supervisor would take the call.

So before I cut off this "service," I want to get opinions about whom I
should jump to. I am particularly interested in reliable companies with
affordable overseas rates; I call Istanbul to be in touch with in-laws.

I am disgusted with the swindlers and frauds who are going into the phone
business.

It's likely on the other end. Get a different long distance carrier.
It's not like you don't have choices:

Or, try one of the VOIP services. I have a friend that calls Bulgaria
often, and it would seem to me that Turkey would be a bit easier, even
though it's in the same neighborhood.

I assume that you are asking about cell phone service.

I have t-mobile and have been happy with them, although the experience
has NOT been without a little pain. In their case, it just seems to be
bad management, not dishonesty, since the support people have always
been accessible and have corrected the problems.

There was point where my rebate request was rejected, but they said I
could appeal. When I called and they looked into it, they said the
rebate was on the way AND it was! Also, the rebates were handled by an
outside contractor and T-mobile seems to have at least reduced their
dependence on rebates at this point -- I know the specific phone I
bought is actually LESS now and there is no rebate involved.

I can't really speak about the overseas rates, but their domestic rates
and plans are very competitive.
