Well, I have met a number of people who believed that, they were
going to meet just ONE individual with an effectively infinite
amount of money, who would just hand it over. Not even a wealthy
spouse or sex partner. Just a platonic "friend" who would pay
out of some cosmic obligation.

These people REALLY believed that it would happen. And that
maybe they could cause it to happen, just by wanting it hard
enough. Along with whining and attempting to guilt-trip random
acquaintances.

It's called faith and prayer. Some people believe in an almighty
god, an afterlife and a just universe and others believe in the
almighty dollar, the power of begging and the ultra-rich friend.
Are you going to say that one religion is better than another?
