I think that job was phased out around 1960. Your next bet would be
getting off your butt and become self employed.

Or a job that allows you to work at home. 3/4 of my time is at my
home office where no one cares what I listen to or watch.

Floor maintenance technician. Might be too complicated though: all
those different buffer pads and color-coded spray bottles sure look like
they'd be confusing for you!

The ONLY motivation of being self employed is that YOU GET TO KEEP all
your income. I have been self employed for 38 years and never
considered doing it without pay.

There are other incentives:

No one will override your decisions.
You can not be fired.
Other employees can not hurt you,you have to do it to yourself.
No fears of employee theft or pilferage.

Nope, you also get to decide the detail of how things are done too.

No... No... No... You missed the point. The post said something about
listening to music at work... Reply was be an elevator operator. The next
reply said something about those jobs disappearing years ago... My point
was that anyone can stand in an elevator, get free music and push buttons
for others all day if they want to... Or at least until security finds out
and has a problem with their kindness - or theft of musak, depending on the
lawyers involved.

It was not meant to say that he could somehow make money off it. It was
meant to show that weirdoes like me can get joy out of doing stupid,
harmless stuff.

Just imagine the reactions after years of doing it when someone notices you
are gone and says, "Hey, so-and-so, the elevator guy, got fired I guess!"
and their friend's reply is, "Fired? He was never an employee. He was
simply mentally ill like that guy from Northern NJ..."

...Okay... I gotta go get some sleep...

I know. We went thru it 20 years ago with the kids, and to this day,
I still suffer recurring flashbacks with the squirrelly voices going off in my head.
