Hugo Chavez Thanks Colombia for Support in Hostage Release
Havana, Jan 10 (acn) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez expressed his
thanks to the Colombian government for its support in the rescue
operation of former Colombian vice presidential candidate, Clara Rojas,
and former lawmaker, Consuelo Gonzalez, who were held by the Colombian
Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC).
President Chavez announced on Thursday morning that both women were
taken to the humanitarian mission, and would arrive in Caracas today.
Then they will decide if they want to return to Colombia, said Chavez,
as reported by the Bolivarian News Agency.
Chavez said that Caracas and Bogota are part of the same homeland and
that the operative depended on coordination between both sides. "We
have coordinated the operative with the Colombian government; we thank
Colombia for its cooperation that made for a successful operation."
The Venezuelan President said he will continue to make efforts to
achieve peace in Colombia. "We are at their disposal and will keep in
contact. we will also maintain contact with the FARC with the objective
of achieving the release of all hostages and talking peace some day."
