Venezuela to US: Give Us Drug Facts
Caracas, Jun 19 (Prensa Latina) Internal Affairs and Justice Minister
Pedro Carreno urged the US government to provide his country with any
information on groups of alleged drug traffickers organized in
Venezuelan territory.
If they have information on this matter, they can send us the details
and we will proceed with the appropriate operation, affirmed Carreno in
his news conference Tuesday.
Carreno said the US would be better served focusing its techno-military
power on its own aerial, terrestrial and maritime frontiers, since that
country buys 80 percent of the world's drugs.
If the US wants Venezuela's cooperation to fight this scourge, we only
ask for reciprocity, he said, pointing out that the Venezuelans
involved in the April 2002 coup attempt live in the US.
The US cannot decide who is a terrorist and who is not, he continued,
noting Luis Posada Carriles and the authors of the 2003 bomb attacks on
the Spanish and Colombian embassies also reside in the United States.
Regarding the cocaine seized on Margarita Island, June 9, he said 12
people have been arrested, including police officials, Venezuelan
airport officials, two Mexican passengers and a Congolese citizen,
supposedly with a diplomatic position.
