C.I.A. Paid Entire Budget of Afghanistan's Spy Service From 2002
to 2009<http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/26/world/asia/26kabul.html>
--Key Karzai Aide Arrested in Corruption Inquiry Is C.I.A. Informant
26 Aug 2010 The aide to President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan at
the center of a politically sensitive corruption investigation is
being paid by the Central Intelligence Agency, according to Afghan
and American officials. Mohammed Zia Salehi, the chief of administration
for the National Security Council, appears to have been on the
payroll for many years, according to officials in Kabul and
Washington... Other prominent Afghans who American officials have
said were on the C.I.A.'s payroll include the presidents half
brother, Ahmed Wali Karzai, suspected by investigators of playing
a role in Afghanistans booming opium trade. Earlier this year,
American officials did not press Mr. Karzai to remove his brother
from his post as the chairman of the Kandahar provincial council.

Stryker soldiers allegedly formed 'kill team' to carry out random
executions of Afghan
civilians<http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2012712859_civilian
deaths25m.html> 24 Aug 2010 Last December, Army Staff Sgt. Calvin
Gibbs began joking with other soldiers about how easy it would be
to "toss a grenade" at Afghan civilians and kill them, according
to statements made by fellow platoon members to military investigators.
One soldier said it was a stupid idea.

Another believed that Gibbs was "feeling out the platoon." Others
told investigators Gibbs eventually turned the talk into action,
forming what one called a "kill team" to carry out random executions
of Afghans. In one of the most serious war-crimes cases to emerge
from the Afghanistan war, five soldiers from a Stryker infantry
brigade based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord are now charged with
murder for their alleged roles in killing three Afghan civilians.

US 'kill team' targeted Afghan
civilians<http://www.presstv.ir/detail/140156.html> 26 Aug 2010
Five US soldiers are charged with deliberately targeting Afghan
civilians amid growing discontent over the rising civilian causalities
in the war-torn country. The troopers allegedly killed three Afghans
in Kandahar Province this year and they were charged with murder
in June. Since then, US army prosecutors have also filed additional
charges of conspiracy to commit premeditated murder -- a plot that
allegedly began when one soldier discussed how easy it would be to
"toss a grenade" at Afghan civilians, The Seattle Times
reported<http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2012712859_civiliand
eaths25m.html> on Thursday. One of the soldiers had reportedly
formed what has been called a "kill team" to randomly execute Afghan
civilians while on petrol.

Afghan civilians as they protested outside the massive US military
base at Bagram on Monday. A provincial police official said that
at least one civilian was killed in the incident, but Nato asserted
that no civilians had been killed or injured.

Obama officials call for drones, military strikes in
Yemen<http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/24/AR20100
82406553.html> 24 Aug 2010 For the first time since the Sept. 11,
2001, attacks, CIA analysts see one of al-Qaeda's offshoots - rather
than the core group now based in Pakistan Langley - as the most
urgent threat to U.S.

security, officials said. The sober new assessment of al-Qaeda's
affiliate in Yemen has helped prompt senior Obama administration
officials to call for an escalation of U.S. operations there -
including a proposal to add armed CIA drones to a clandestine
campaign of U.S. military strikes, the officials said.

"We are looking to draw on all of the capabilities at our disposal,"
said a senior Obama administration official, who described plans
for "a ramp-up over a period of months."

Pakistan slams US for drone

'extra-judicial killings' of civilians 25 Aug 2010 Pakistan's High
Commissioner to the United Kingdom has criticized the US for
indiscriminate killings in the so-called war on terror in the
country.

"Americans are using indiscriminately the drones to hit what they
called high-value targets that killed so many people," Wajid Shamsul
Hassan made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Press TV.
He also acknowledged that the US is conducting extra-judicial
killings of the civilians in his country.

Hassan added that there has been a request for a probe into the
killings.

Iraq 24 Aug 2010 As the nation watches troops being withdrawn from
the Middle East, few perhaps are aware that another wave of soldiers
is being deployed. On Tuesday, a group of about 150 soldiers from
the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, based in Fort Hood, Texas, had a
two-hour layover at Bangor International Airport on their way to
southern Iraq. "So we are combat arms soldiers -- Im a tanker, weve
got other tankers and artillery. But our job in Iraq is primarily
going to be to training Iraqi security forces, cops, the [Iraqi]
army, the border forces -- theyve got huge border forces," Lt. Col.
Bryan Mullins said.

2010 Deadly clashes between Islamist insurgents and African Union
[and CIA]-backed government forces cut off many parts of Mogadishu
on 24 August, when dozens of people, including several MPs, were
killed during an attack on a downtown hotel. "There is not one area
[of the capital] that is safe today," said a civil society worker
who asked not to be identified because she feared for her safety.
"We are getting reports of dead bodies on most major roads in the

broke out on 23 August, meant the corpses were not being collected.

internationally understood that the United States is an exporter
of terrorism;

'Contrary to common belief, the American export of terrorism or
terrorists is not a recent phenomenon, nor has it been associated
only with Islamic radicals or people of Middle Eastern, African or
South Asian ethnic origin. This dynamic belies the American belief
that our free, open and integrated multicultural society lessens
the allure of radicalism and terrorism for US citizens.'

26 Aug 2010 The jury in the Bronx synagogue bomb plot case was told
Wednesday that the informant who provided the four suspects with
phony bombs and missiles was paid $97,000 by the FBI. The FBI gave
Pakistani immigrant Shahed Hussain $44,000 for expenses and $53,000
for "his services" over a three-year period, agent Robert Fuller
said... Defense lawyers contend that without the informant - who
they say entrapped the suspects - their bumbling clients would never
have tried to blow up two synagogues in Riverdale and shoot down
missiles.

the need for Canada to buy F-35 fighter jets, Harpers spokesman,

Navy Drone Violated Washington
Airspace<http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/26/us/26drone.html> 25 Aug
2010 This month, a United States Navy drone wandered into the
restricted airspace around Washington before operators could stop
it. Navy spokesmen could not say Wednesday if anyone on the ground
was alarmed by the drone -- officially an MQ-8B Fire Scout Vertical
Takeoff and Landing unmanned aerial vehicle -- which looks like a
small windowless helicopter and was flying at 2,000 feet. The Navy
did say that the drone got within 40 miles of Washington before
operators were able to re-establish communication and guide it back
to its base in southern Maryland.

The Government Can Use GPS to Track Your

Adam Cohen 25 Aug 2010 Government agents can sneak onto your property
in the middle of the night, put a GPS device on the bottom of your
car and keep track of everywhere you go. This doesn't violate your
Fourth Amendment rights, because you do not have any reasonable
expectation of privacy in your own driveway -- and no reasonable
expectation that the government isn't tracking your movements. That
is the bizarre -- and scary -- rule that now applies in California
and eight other Western states.

26 Aug 2010 A boozed-up bigot who just returned from filming U.S.
Marines in Afghanistan used a pocket knife to slash a cabbie - just
because the driver was Muslim, police said Wednesday. Michael
Enright, 21, of upstate Brewster, was charged with felony attempted
murder as a hate crime - among other crimes - after the sick attack
on Ahmed Sharif, 43, Tuesday night. Enright slashed Sharif across
the face, arm and hand after asking the Bangladesh-born cabbie if
he was Muslim and then saying 'As-salaam alaikum' - which means
'peace be unto you' in Arabic, cops said. The suspect also yelled,
"Consider this a checkpoint" - an apparent reference to security
screening in Afghanistan - as he wildly thrust his knife through
the open glass partition at Sharif, said Manhattan Assistant District
Attorney James Zaleta.
