Cuba and Vietnam Teaming Up on Highway Construction
Havana, May 10 (acn) Cooperation agreements between Cuba and Vietnam
related to highway construction are being successfully fulfilled,
leading to the possibility of extending collaboration to other areas of
infrastructure development, said Cuban Construction Minister Fidel
Figueroa.
Figueroa is leaving Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday after completing a
work agenda that included talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen
Tan Dzung, Construction Minister Nguyen Hong Quan and Transportation
head Ho Nghia Dzung, reported the PL News Agency.
The Cuban minister also met with First Deputy Defense Minister Nguyen
Huy Hieu to ratify an agreement for Cuban technical assistance on a
mountainous road project in East Truong Son.
Benefiting from Cuban technical assistance, six thoroughfares are
currently under construction in Vietnam. The major project is the Ho
Chi Minh Transnational Highway, which runs nearly 2,000 kilometers
north to south, at times over rough mountainous areas.
Technical advise and work supervision by Cuban experts is part of an
agreement between Vietnam's Ministry of Transportation and the Cuban
firm Quality Courrier International (QCI).
A new joint venture to provide technical assistance and project
research, design, and execution services is expected to be created
shortly.
