CENTER FOR CUBAN STUDIES PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH TRIPS

The Bush administration severely restricted all travel to Cuba by the
end of 2003, thus eliminating all people-to-people educational trips and
even most academic trips by students. Those individuals traveling under the
general license for professional research may still travel to Cuba for
purposes of their own specific research. This is not a license category
that must be applied for; it is simply what it says, a general license to
travel BUT ONLY FOR those who qualify as research professionals; it is by
assertion, not by application.

For many years, the Center for Cuban Studies assisted researchers in
their travels and for several years, group trips for researchers were the
only kinds of trips we were able to do. Now, with the new restrictions,
these are once again the only trips we are doing.

Starting in November, we are arranging several research trips for small
numbers of professionals. Currently, these are the planned programs and the
dates for travel:

November 12-21: Architectural Research [limited to professional
architects, planners, designers and academics] in Havana, Santiago de Cuba,
Cienfuegos, Trinidad.

December 3-12: Architectural Research [same limitations], Havana and
Santiago de Cuba

December 5-12: Medical Research [limited to medical personnel and some
non-medical specialists, eg, gerontologists], Havana

December 26, 2004-January 2, 2005: Educational Research [limited to
high school teachers of social science and academics doing research in
politics and/or economics], Havana, Cienfuegos, Trinidad

January 16-23, 2005: Legal and Judicial Research [limited to attorneys,
judges, and academics], Havana and Matanzas

We are now accepting inquiries for all of the trips, but are accepting
actual applications only for the first architectural research trip. The
approximate cost is $3300 including round-trip air fare Miami-Havana, all
hotel accommodations and transportation inside Cuba, breakfast and several
special meals, museum fees, visa, departure tax from Miami, full-time leader
as well as bilingual translator. (It does not include the $25 departure tax
from Havana.) A working itinerary of the trip follows, but please note that
dates and itinerary are subject to change. For information or to receive an
application, write tr...@cubanartspace.net or call 212.242.0559 or
