http://www.worldhistorymaps.info/images/East-Hem_001ad.jpg
http://worldhistorymaps.info/images/East-Hem_050ad.jpg
http://worldhistorymaps.info/images/East-Hem_300ad.jpg

ஃபினீசியாவிலும் அதன் ஆதிக்கம் மிகுந்த நாடுகளிலும், ஆங்கிலத்தில் “born with silver spoon” என்பதன் பொருள் என்னவோ, அதே பொருள் “born in purple” என்பதற்கும் உண்டு.

Periplus para 61. About the following region, the course trending toward the east, lying out at sea toward the west is the island Palaesimundu, called by the ancients Taprobane. The northern part is a day's journey distant, and the southern part trends gradually toward the west, and almost touches the opposite shore of Azania.
It produces pearls, transparent stones, muslins, and tortoise-shell.

Merchants of Southern India formed Trade Guilds in order to organise and expand their trading activities.
Trade guilds became channels through which Indian culture got exported to other lands.
From the 11th century to the 13th century, South-Indian trade in Southeast-Asia was dominated by the Cholas; and Pallavas in in the previous centuries. They were NOT under the control of the government of the day. In Nagapattinam there existed a brick tower called Chinese Pagoda. This was demolished by Jesuit mission in 1867.
There were some Chinese traders interacting with Tamil merchants here and they were allowed to have their pagoda.
In the pedestal of an image of Buddha there were some letters.
They were found to be Tamil script.
These were exhibited in Tokyo in 1992 as collection of Mr & Mrs Rockfeller.
It was established that the artifacts were from Nagapattinam.

Similarity between Korean and Tamil Cultures in the eyes of a Tamil Person
by
Dave S Mahadevan
ABSTRACT:
Korean and Tamil are two languages spoken by two different peoples separated by land, mountains, rivers, nations, etc., living 5800 km [3625 miles] apart by air travel. However, these two peoples share similar culture, habits, and traditions. It is amazing to note that their languages have many words which give the same same meaning, have many dialects, are diglossic in nature, and the number of people speaking their language is almost the same [74 million Tamils and 71 million Koreans]. Their history starts almost at the same time, their religions originated in the same sub-continent, and their countries were ruled by three distinct royalty, thus dividing them into three parts respectively. Both their countries were invaded and taken over by foreigners, and they obtained independence from foreign yoke within a span of a few years. As a person who was born and brought up in Tamilnadu, with Tamil as mother tongue and seeped in Tamil culture, emigrated to United States, visited Korea many times, stayed there for weeks if not months during each visit, visited various parts of that country, worked, befriended, and interacted with many Koreans, the author found that these two distinct peoples have many similarities not only in their cultures, but also in their language structure, the way of speaking it, interacting with people in various walks of life, some building construction, certain household implements, and even food. Both these peoples have rich culture, heritage, are proud of their language, respect other cultures, and are related by blood long time back.
This paper shares the personal experience of this author and his findings of similarities between Korean and Tamil languages, the peoples, and their culture.
Key words: Korean, Tamil, Korea, Tamilnadu, diglossic languages, Three Kingdoms, heritage and culture, similarities of Korean and Tamil Culture.

The Chinese have long valued ivory for both art and utilitarian
objects. Early reference to the Chinese export of ivory is recorded
after the Chinese explorer Zhang Qian ventured to the west to form
alliances to enable the eventual free movement of Chinese goods to the
west; as early as the first century BC, ivory was moved along the
Northern Silk Road for consumption by western nations.[6] Southeast
Asian kingdoms included tusks of the Indian elephant in their annual
tribute caravans to China. Chinese craftsmen carved ivory to make
everything from images of deities to the pipe stems and end pieces of
opium pipes.[7]
