Hey everyone, I just have a simple project that I would like some help
with. There's this shelving unit I would like to make some extra
shelves for. It doesn't have to be pretty. I just need help figuring
out what kind of wood material to purchase, and I need a member to be
with me at the 'Space to help operate the saw. I have free time
Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday.

Anyone willing to help - I will be happy to contribute some help on
one of your projects in return if you like.

I can give you a hand...do you have the dimensions? I can work with
anything that has 3 or fewer dimensions. :D

Most shelving units are particle board and there are some standard
sizes that you can get (I picked some up that were almost exactly the
right size for an old bookcase at Menards)

" I can work with anything that has 3 or fewer dimension"

But who is going to help me make a hypercube then?

If the shelves are long, or you are going to put something heavy on them, I would go with pine planks or metal grate (like we used in the electronics parts shelves)

Elizabeth, I'm happy to lend a hand.  I can be at the space anytime tomorrow.  If it is one of the usual photo finish bookcases sold at the big box stores you can find pre-finished shelves relatively cheap at the major lumber stores.  If you can bring an existing shelf we can duplicate it.

I want to know how he handles 2 dimensional objects safely.  I always slice off appendages  when i handle them.

It's the 0-dimensional objects that're a real pain...I keep losing the
damned infinitely small points all over the place.

And I thought life was pointless, you've been hogging them all.

Shane and David -

This is not exactly a "bookshelf" per se. But the existing shelves
are some kind of dense particle board, and it's 3/4" thick. There are
3 different sizes I need:

21" x 24 and 5/8" (cut 2)
21" x 24 and 1/2" (cut 2)
21" x 20 and 7/8" (cut 3)

I am hoping I can buy this kind of material at Home Depot. They are
going to be kind of big.

Let me know if 2pm Saturday works for you. My cell number is
414-530-7529 (text ok)

Elizabeth, yes Home Depot has such a thing  http://www.homedepot.com/buy/3-4-inx-2-ft-x-4-ft-medium-density-fiberboard-handy-panel-1508112.html#.UJUE0cXuVJ0

I plan on being at the space this morning to work on several projects.  If things go as usual I will still be there this afternoon. ;)

I'll have my truck if you need help hauling the larger pieces.

I just wanted to say the shelves worked out perfectly after the "edit"
on Tuesday. Thanks so much to Shane and the other guy who helped me
out - sorry I forgot your name (I'm terrible with names). Having the
extra shelves is going to make a huge difference in my work space, and
they make me feel better because I can organize more things! You guys
are awesome.

The "Other Guy"'s name is Jason H.

Y'know, you could help us out by putting up an 8.5x11" poster (as soon
as I'm done with them....) at your place of business.... ;)

Of course, I would love to. But unless the poster has something to do
with a community gaming event, or a community charity type event,
chances are not good. We don't have a public bulletin board in our
stores.
