As we get more members, we're going to need more space for pallet
storage. I wonder if we might want to go to half-size pallets, with
shelf supports on them (customized by each member). Maybe 2'wide
x4'deep, stored end-wise. This would require that the forklift has long
enough forks, or at least that the pallets be balanced properly.

We'd have to make our own pallets, but the cost per member would be low,
and we have a proper wood shop now (which we didn't have in the early
months when we set up the current system).

Speaking of the forklift-- every time I've tried to use it lately, the
engine won't crank until I put a charger on the battery for a few
minutes. I don't know what the problem is, but we should look into it.
(Is the forklift charging the battery properly?)

Maybe we should put a voltage monitor on the battery?

(One thing I like about electric forklifts is that you always know
whether the battery is charged or not)

we've talked about multiple types of member storage.  we only have pallets now because we had a ton of space and tom had a ton of pallet racking.  Most members don't need (or use!) pallets.  Shelves, lockers, and probably some pallets will all be in the mix.

It might be interesting to take a survey of the current membership about
what kind of storage they'd be likely to use. I think we'll need more of
all of the above (except for filing cabinets, we have lots of those).

Also, I don't know how much of the stuff on the pallets right now is
stuff that's frequently used or projects in progress, and how much is
just storage (I have some of both).

I have both a pallet and a locker. If I had thought better of it, I
would have grabbed a couple of the smaller lockers instead of one big
one.

I don't want to take the current fork lift to the new building, it leaks too much.

Well see what I can pick up cheap in the next month or so.
