I plan on bring some "railroad" games with varying degrees of complexity. I have been playing these for years with other like minded people (read nerds) and found a common interest.
I describe them as "resource allocation games" where you get allocations of a limited resource and make decisions on where to spend them to get the most return on your buck. They range from a 30 minute game "Ticket to ride" - fast to learn and some free play on-line. http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/9209/ticket-to-ride

When I think of "train games" I think of The Public Works Trilogy, by
Mat Ruff.
I'd be happy to dive in. Also, I've been wondering what the deal is
with Settlers of Cataan....I've heard it mentioned numerous times on
Wired.com but have never really tried it.

Settlers of Catan is basically a building-and-trading game. Certain plots of land will provide certain resources, such as lumber from forest, wheat from field, etc. Then you collect and trade these resources in order to build more stuff. There was a really good article about it I saw recently:

Y'know, not to piggy-back on the game night, but if enough people get
interested, I could bring the miracle berry tablets for a little pre
or post game fun...they lose their potency after a while, so I'd like
to use them up soon.
Also, depending on the types of games we're talking about, I could
bring in Martian or Monty Python Fluxx for those who're Interested....

I thought about posting this and the Real Steal plan on the calendar
on the site, but I can't find any options to add anything to it when
I'm signed in.
