I can't help but think this is like watching show jumping. It's only
exciting if you're the rider. Or in this case, driver.
I wouldn't expect to see anyone but people who are addicted to and
really enjoy their car hobby to be showing up. We get spectators on the
Southside but it's usually sotuhside church people checking us all out
after church on Sundays. Lots of kids with elders and pastors and the
like......Our NW side outdoor venue in the Summer is a different crowd.
We get lots of spectators there who camp out to watch the races many
make a day of it with lawn chairs and tables.....
WHITES are more likely to be able to afford accroutements like lawn chairs
and tables...

kenij posting this would be like me posting, "Hey, come on over and watch
while I assemble my new model airplanes...!!!"
I'd rather watch potholes form, basically...

you build airplanes? Electric or nitro?
cool.
Where do you fly?
We have three planes and four heli's.
RC flight generally speaking isn't as social as surface RC
over by the outddor track in Norridge it's lots of Europeans and Asians
hanging out watching. Scale model racing is big in their home countries.
I collect those plastic model airliners...they are cool-looking, but they
basically just hang around and collect dust. They are civil airliners,
everything from an old Cubana Tupolevs to A380's in various Asian liveries.
Most I've gotten as gifts, they run about 25-30 bux. If you have the bux
there are some real nice and expensive ones, handmade from wood, the kind
you used to see in travel agency or airline office (remember them!?)
windows, those can run up to a thou or more...
Basically I am a geek at heart...

BTW about 15 years ago a friend who worked for TWA in St. Louis took me to a
*real* flying simulator at their HQ at Lambert Field there, it was one of
their 747 simulators that pilots used to train on. We "landed" at London
Gatwick...
Corporate security was pretty lax in those daze, you could not get away with
that shit now...

nearest you:
http://strictlyrc.net , Lawrence Ave. Norridge, mostly flight RC
http://chicagoland-hobby.com , Nprthwest Highway, Edison Park, mostly
trains
http://alshobbyshop.com , Elmhurst IL
Sadly Stanton Hobbyshop closed a while back after 49 years in biz.
Being that yer an old fart and prolly enjoy something more experiential,
Al's Hobbyshop in Elmhurst is where I'd tell you to go if you were
looking for that "old time" feeling, something that might hark back to
when your dad or uncle took you to a hobbyshop. Al's has been there for
62 years and they have TON's of merchandise on their shelves. If you go
plan on lunch downtown or dinner. It's a pretty nice downtown area there
in Elmhurst. Very upper-middle and very white with lots of boutique
kinda places. Not as huge as downtown Naperville but just as nice.
I'll bet yer in The Mile High Club
