Subject: [Midsouth Makers] Respect for the space

I came up to the space this afternoon to work on a project. This first
thing I noticed when I came in the door were several empty drink containers
sitting around. The second thing I noticed was that someone had spilled
soda on the dresser I came up here to paint. Soda on the shop floor too.

We're all adults. It's not my job to clean up after other members. It's not
cool that someone spilled soda on my dresser and the floor, even more so
that it was left that way.

Please clean up after yourselves and be a little more respectful of the
space and that we all have to share it.

I know how that feels. I walked into the both of the performing arts center
at my school and found poptart ground into the soundboard, bottles of
dip-spit hidden under the light board, and my stockpile of gels thrown
everywhere.
I might not own them but the boards are still my babies and gel is not
cheap. Nearly killed the fourth block theatre class.

Sorry if any got on your dress, we left a bunch of soda cans lay around, I
whent to clean them up but the dress was in the way of where the can bag
was so I had to pass it. the one that fell actually fell off the dress
twoards the mame cabnet and i didn't think there was any splash as the can
had barely any left in it. We lacked a mop and didn't feel the need to
spear it with a broom. It being 1am it clearly did not come to me to just
use paper towels. If you would like to donate a mop that would be great
help, else tool of the month it.

Please think before you fly off the handle, we do have to share the space
and when you drop thing right in front of other things stuffs gonna happen.

With that said I do apologize if any got on your dresser.

It's not flying off the handle if you show an obvious disrespect for the
space. It's not just the fact that you got soda on my dresser, but on the
floor. I couldn't give a flying rats ass what time it was. If you're awake
enough to play games on the mame, or drive home, you're awake enough to wet
a paper towel, sponge, cloth, whatever with some water and some dish
detergent (which was sitting on the work bench almost directly across from
the mame cabinet) and get your mess off damn the floor.

I'm not your mom, or your girlfriend. It's not my job to clean up your
mess. You're are an adult. Clean up after yourself.

Perhaps you should be a little more thoughtful and not leave a sticky nasty
mess on the floor for someone else to clean up.

I apologize, and you continue beating me up for cleaning (shoty as it was).
I agree, I shouldn't be the last guy standing doing the cleaning either. I
stayed up there late trying to get bubble to blow. You didn't hear me get
on the group and have a rant after some one placed a box on my plexy that I
had set a side for the shadow box I was builting, scratching it. It's cause
I reconized its a shared place. Thanks for getting that dark liquid up,
sorry your reaction is the bring it here. Look I donated some brooms and
dust pans (out of pocket), if you throw in a mop cool, if not I'll get one
after pay day.

You don't have to cry over spill soda.

Children, amusing as it is, can we stop yelling at each other on the list?
Finger pointing, profanity, and pouting can be done face-to-face or
handled passive aggressively in other places besides our public list.

It was asked that we all clean up after ourselves (or maybe someone else
because we aren't 5) when we leave the space.  I think this is a good
suggestion.

We are not singling anyone out, everyone can do a better job
of respecting peoples projects and the space as a whole.

Also if we could avoid using phrases that will obviously just make people
mad to get out point across that would be nice. We are all socially
adjusted adults (relatively speaking) so if we could act that way it would
be better for all of us.

The bit of paint that got on the mame cabinet was completely my fault. It
wasn't intentional by any means. It was purely my terrible painting skills.
Like I said tonight when I apologized in person, I'll gladly repaint it if
you wish. You said it wasn't an issue, and that's fine. Once again, sorry
about the paint.

I know, I know, it's a bit late for my 2 cents, but being a night lurker,
I'm not often up when these things are happening...

I agree with Thomas.  It's our shared space, we should respect that.  If
you spill something, clean it up.  If you see something spilled, even if
you are not the spiller, clean it up.  If you see who spilled it, get them
to take responsibility and clean it up.  If you see something that could do
damage to someones project, please fix it, or let someone know.

Thanks

Mary

For those wondering, because I know you do, the current dilemma has been
diffused in a very civil manner after solving the issues we all know
written text can have with intent.  Sometimes it just takes getting to talk
face to face to solve issues.

All in all, after talking with everyone and considering opinions expressed
in this thread, there are a few issues of the group as a whole that will
likely need to be mentioned and general/gentle reminders reiterated.  I'll
specifically have two topics that I'll want to throw out to everyone as
said reminder, but also look for input from everyone else a little later.
So please do keep an eye out for those over the next day or two, and
hopefully we'll be able to help ourselves improve our time shared at the
space.

Thanks,

Daniel H.
