Subject: Dumb XP key question

I'm rebuilding a friend's system - it has XP on it, but is old enough that
no service packs had come out for it. They don't have the original CDs
anymore and all I have is an XP SP3 disk. Does anyone know if the key for
their system still activate an SP3 XP cd? the CD I have is a retail CD

It should work fine unless it's a volume/non-retail key. if it's a branded
computer it should be fine. Keys weren't tied to specific Service Packs

Thanks...It's been so long since I rebuilt an XP machine I couldn't
remember (this is going to be a child's computer so no need to try to
shoehorn 7 on it, tho I may still dual-boot it with some linux distro (get
'em started early :) )
