Hi,

I want to redistribute MSXML 6.0 with my application. Previously I was using
MSXML 4.0 for which Microsoft provides a merge module, but I couldn't find
one for MSXML 6.0. Is there one available? If not, how do I redistribute
MSXML 6.0?

Thanks.

You are probably asking this question in response to Core XML's blog
post,
http://blogs.msdn.com/xmlteam/archive/2007/03/12/msxml4-is-going-to-be-kill-bit-ed.aspx .
MSXML4 is going through a phase now we are generally calling "End of Life",
which means first we will disable it in the browser, then over (a longer
period of) time, it will be phased out of support completely. Our
recommendation has always been to move to MSXML6. However, many people are
asking about MSXML6, since it is not today ubiquitously available on
Windows. We are working very hard to change that(!!), but in the meantime,
if you are looking for an immediate alternative, you could also consider
MSXML3, if your scenario works with MSXML3. MSXML3 is avaiable on all
currently supported Windows OS versions: Windows 2000 sp4, XP, Windows 2003,
and Vista, and is updated through Windows Update.

On to your specific question:

MSXML6 does not have merge modules, it only has an MSI. The MSI is
redistributable. (MSXML6 will never be distributed with MSMs, or through a
cab.) As it stands today, you can either package the MSI with your app, or
have the customer install MSXML6 from microsoft.com directly. We are working
on plans that in the future, MSXML6 might be broadly distributed to Windows,
as MSXML3 is already today, and serviced through Windows Update, but no
formal plans have been announced.
