When people say "life expectancy" they mean how long it will take before a
bigger/better console is available as an upgrade for the old console. It
doesn't mean your Xbox will stop working in 3 to 5 years. It just means that
by then Microsoft will release their next system and encourage you to
purchase it instead.

You can keep playing your Xbox for many years. But after the newer system
comes out... most games will be released for that and Microsoft will
eventually stop supporting the system in favor of their new console.

I think it probably is true that X-Box has a life expectancy, although, 3-5
years is a little short. I don't believe that.
It's that whole hard drive thing that I mentioned. All hard drives have a
life expectancy of 7 years, hence the X-Box must also have one.
I'm not sure though, if the 7 year figure is with continous power, i.e. if
your computer has to be on for the same number of hours as there are hours
in 7 years.

Did you notice my other post? Life expectancy does not mean the physical
lifetime of your system!!!!!!! It means the marketting lifetime!!!

Who cares if HDs have a life expectancy. Everything does. But the guy is
right, a product's life expectancy is how long before technology improves
enough for a newer better machine. ALL game consoles have a product
lifetime of approximately 5 years, meaning the company will release their
next version in 5 years. Which Nintendo and Sony have done. You can
squeeze a few more years out by redesigning, like the PS1.

Also, I have had HDs for longer than 7 years. Treat your electronics kind
and they will work hard for you for a very long time.
