I am facing a problem similar to the one reported in
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.officeupdate/browse_frm/thread/0bcec3d01c5b93be/53f3288d337b103d?#53f3288d337b103d

But I am not using Word 2007, I am using Word 2003 (11.6568.6568) SP2.

The solution suggested there is to delete the registry key /HKCU/
Software/Microsoft/Office/12.0/Word/Data. I don't have this key in my
registry, but I do have /HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Office/11.0/Word/
Data.

Deleting this key works for me, but only partially. The mouse works
fine when I start Word. But the first time I alt-tab to another
application and alt-tab back to Word it stops working.

Any suggestions?

It was a bad add-in. Tools/Templates and Add-ins didn't even list it
but once I deleted the branch from HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Office/Word/
Addins the mouse stopped giving me problems.
