Quick Access Toolbar Hell

My Quick Access toolbar is getting out of control – there is so much stuff on
it that I need and it’s hard to identify just from an icon.

Oh for the good old days of 2003 where we could make multiple toolbars with
actual text on them.

Is there a way to do this in V2007?

Yikes! Sorry I asked!. I looked at your link, downloaded the Custom UI
Editor and installed it, read further on your page. My eyes glazed over and
rolled to the back of my head. I wouldn't even know where to begin, nor do I
think it's worth it at the moment. But thanks anyway - I will live with the
QAT as is.

Why on earth did MS take a relatively simple interface and give us this
instead? Did aliens take over their brains?

It gets easier with practice. If you want to send be websiter feedback
(with your e-mail) address I can send you a basic template with a tab, some
groups, and a few buttons for you to play around with.

Why. I don't know. I have heard that some functionality for customizing
the ribbon via the UI will be included in Word2010.

I have posted another question, also today (Jan 7) entitled Macros on Quick
Access Toolbar. Are you perchance able to answer that one also? I am in a
time crunch for a response on that particular one.

Yes I saw that question but really don't follow your problem. Any attempt
to suffix individual macros here with .Main in either version of Word here
e.g.,

Sub TestMacro.Main()

results in a compile error expected end of statement.

I think the only way to transfer and move single macros between templates
with the organizer would be a dedicated project module for each macro.
These can certainly be run from the QAT and moved usingthe organizer.

For the brief time I had the Word 2010 beta installed, I looked at the
ribbon modification tools, which are similar to those provided by the third
party ribbon customizers eg http://ribboncustomizer.com/ for 2007.
Coincidentally I have just removed the customizer from my 2007 installation
in favour of an add-in template containing the ribbon modifications along
the lines of the method you advocate on your web site and which we have
discussed privately on a number of occasions.

You could say that - or you could say I wanted to remove the footprint
associated with the Ribbon Customizer ;)
A job that was on the postponed list rose quickly to the top when the Ribbon
Customizer crashed and required re-installing screwing up my settings :(
