When a page is set to landscape layout the header is moved to the
'top' of the page and the page number to the 'bottom'. This is
realtive according to the layout. If this page, once printed is then
to be bound for publication, is there a way so ensure that the headers
and page numbers are printed at the real top and and bottom of the
page, while ensuring the text/graphic of the page is printed in
landscape format? Image a landscape layout page turned 90 degrees
counterclockwise so that it is now in portrait orientation, i.e.,
ready for binding. I want the text and graphic of the page in
landscape layout , but he header and page number in the same postions
as the rest of the document's pages {header is centered top, page # is
centered bottom).
Thanks in advance!

Q: I'm typing a thesis with a lot of tables, and some of them will only fit
if they're turned sideways (broadside). But the graduate school requires all
pages to have a page number at the bottom. How do I get my tables printed in
landscape orientation and still have a portrait page number?
A: This can be done in Word 97 and 2000. There is an excellent article in
the Microsoft Knowledge Base, "WD97: How to Add a Portrait Page Number to a
Landscape Page." You can get a copy of this article via email by sending a
message to msh...@microsoft.com with Q162235 as the subject. You can also
view this article online at
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q162/2/35.asp. The article
steps you through setting up a separate section for the landscape pages,
unlinking the header and footer from the previous and following sections,
and several methods of adding the page number (or an entire header/footer as
needed).
If you have an earlier version of Word, you will probably have to accomplish
this with two passes through the printer. Set up your landscape section with
the appropriate margins and no header or footer. Then create another
document with the same number of pages as you have in the landscape section.
Add the desired page number or header/footer. When editing is complete, set
the page numbers of this document to start with the number of the first page
of your landscape section. After printing the landscape portion, run those
pages back through the printer to print the header/footer. There's a
slightly different approach that is even easier (in fact, you may find this
the easiest way in any version of Word). Instead of creating a separate
landscape section in your document, create the tables in a separate document
and insert page breaks to create the needed number of (correctly numbered)
blank pages in your main document.
