I have content that I want to apply numbered bullets to but when I highlight the content and applied ANY bullets I get a series of dots above and below the list. I have eliminated the whole section of the document and then typed it in wordpad and then cut and pasted.. I landed up with the same lines , just in different location. I cannot seem to get around those lines.

example:
Everyone needs:
-a solid commercial grade firewall.
-Gateway Anti-virus that eliminating viruses before they enter the network.
-Gateway Anti-spyware that eliminates the threat before the spyware enters the network.
-Intrusion prevention service - like artificial intelligence that constantly monitors network traffic preventing hackers from infiltrating the network.
-a secure, encrypted IPSEC virtual private network (VPN) if remote access is required.
-Content filtering to stop nudity, pornography and other offensive material from entering the workplace.

Result:

The dots are probably paragraph borders. Select the six paragraphs, and then
click the "None" option on the Borders tab of the Borders and Shading dialog
box. (Try this even if the "None" option already appears to be selected.)

To open the Borders and Shading dialog box, click Format | Borders and Shading
(Word 97-2003); if you are using Word 2007 or 2010, click the arrow on the
border button in the Paragraph group of the Home tab, and then click Borders and
Shading.
