Normally, recreating your Normal template will correct this issue. You
indicated you did delete a Normal.dot but since it continues to occur, I'd
say you didn't find the right one. :-)

Go to Tools/Options/File Locations and note the location for your User
Templates folder. That's where you should find the Normal template Word uses
for creating new blank documents.

getting so upset every time I go to do a lesson plan.
