page setup not working

installed office xp on pc and page setup dialogue box
remains greyed out....if i open an old document it
works...just not on a new one..thanks for any help

The usual reason for the File, Page Setup dialog being greyed out is because
the insertion point is in a graphic or other 'illegal' object.

Another reason could be that some kinds of editing are restricted, either by the author or by the template that the author used. A fix is to look at File menu and remove the editing restrictions.
