In Word 2007:
1. Open a document that has this problem, press Ctrl+A to select all
of the text
2. Click on Review tab | Proofing: Set Language | <choose your
language> | uncheck the "Detect language automatically" and "Do not
check spelling or grammar" boxes | Default | OK.
3. Click on Office Button | Word Options | Proofing | check the
"Check spelling as you type" and "Check grammar with spelling" boxes |
uncheck the "Hide spelling errors in this document only" and "Hide
grammar errors in this document only" boxes | OK.

In your Windows registry, if the key
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing
Tools\1.0\Override" exists, delete it.

Hello,

I have a similar problem with the exception that I installed office 2007 on
a macnine that did not have any office products on it. The suggested solution
did not work. What is unusual is that I have the 2007 office home and student
edition and the spell checker works in all of the other applications except
word. Also, I don't have the ""HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\Proofing
> Tools\1.0\Override" exists, delete it." so I can't delete it.

Your help is appreciated

Thanks

Hello Garfield,
Where is the "windows registry"? How do I find it. I am trying to fix my
spell checker and follow your instruction to: delete this file "In your
Windows registry, if the key
> "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing
> Tools\1.0\Override" ...
but I don't know where it's located...
Please help.

I upgraded from 03 to 2007 Student edition. I am pulling my hair out !!
Excel works fine with spell check Word does not.

I have highlighted all text in the prob doc... I have made sure language
settings boxes are unchecked (do not check spelling, auto check language
etc), I have gone into proofing and checked all the spelling and grammar
boxes and unchecked the ignore spelling boxes. I have applied changes to all
new docs. I have pressed the button recheck doc.

STILL the doc is not checking the spelling properly. Worse still some parts
of the doc flag mis spelt words and in other parts of the doc its not !!! I
dont know if this is because I have copied text from Excel into Word (from an
excel doc previously created in 03) but whatever its so annoying.

I dont know how to find this HKEY file please someone help.

Under the "Review" tab, "Proofing" tab, there is not an entry of setting for
the language. What did I do wrong?

Found it, but no help. It still will not find mispelled words. Also tried
"Shift F1" to reveal formatting, but I don's see anything about not
spellchecking.

Any help would be great, Thx

Make sure that proofing tools are installed by running Office setup to
ensure that they are selected to Run on My Computer.

What is the error message when you try spelling?
