Hi - I read your posts yesterday and so tried Team Viewer for myself. I am
using the free version and I have to say it's excellent - and so easy to

You could just go look at the web pages for each. *grin*
Teamviewer has servers, does not require any account.
VNC (like UltraVNC) does not.
LogMeIn, GoToMyPC, etc all have servers and you need and account.
Remote Desktop (built into Windows XP) has no servers, but you would have to
have a professional series or above of the OS in order to act as a host.

Thank you. Does Team Viewer and others you mention all work strictly
between the two computers or do they have not have a server involved run by
the software company.?

TeamViewer would be the easiest.
Install the full version on your system(s) and the HOST on her laptop. Take
note of her 9 digit ID and set the password and allow all users to logon.
Should be good to go.

Thanks for your help, once I read your post. I had a bit of a search round
on the web and found out how to make windows think it was the pro edition and
installed the terminal services thing that I was missing. Now it works great.

You can't. Remote Desktop will not use the local audio devices. I know
this is true for actual remote desktop sessions. I don't know if it's true
for remote help sessions to an XP desktop.
An alternative would be to use VNC. That just remotes the locally logged-in
session on the console. Then anyone needing to control it would have to use
