After installing new software and trying to reboot, I
see "Ending Task - should not see me". A Google search
teaches me that many people have seen it, but no one
exactly knows what's happening. Can someone explain it for
me?

Along with www.google.com is also www.groups.google.com .
They will both give you very different search results.

Using www.groups.google.com , I found this, posted by Larry Samuels in
February of last year:

"No it is not a virus--this occasionally appears when a program takes an
abnormally long time to close when shutting down or rebooting the pc.

It is a standard windows message that was used during the beta, then left in
place in the final version. It means exactly what it says--you should not
see
the message if programs are terminating correctly.
