Hi,

I have a calbe internet connection. My pc connect through cable modem directly and it works fine. I bought another pc installed with windows XP, the internal NIC network card works properly, but I can't connect to internet through my cable modem( only this PC connect to cable modem when I was trying). I can't get IP from my ISP. Renew always does not reponse. I tried using other Internal NICs, the probelm is same. But I use a USB network adapter works fine. And my another PC with internal NIC works fine when I connect it to cable modem.

Anyone can help?

Thanks

You need to use Internet Connection Sharing. Read Help and Support and
the www.practicallynetworked.com web site.

Connect your new PC to the old PC using Ethernet and then connect the
old PC to the cable modem via USB and "share" that connection.

Have you tried to use some troubleshoot tools like ipconfig, ping? Try them.

I tried nearly every tools for TCP/IP. When I connected through USB network
adapter. Ipconfig checks very thing fine and so the connection to internet
is fine. But once I plug any of my internal network cards, I can ping
localhost, but I can't get IP from ISP, the ip is 0.0.0.0, after a few
minutes it changes into 192.168.*.*, and then I can't release and renew
using ipconfig.

Hi,
Thank you for your help. But my issue is not the connection two PCs to
internet. The problem is even only this pc can't connect internet using
internal network card but it can through USB network adapter. I know how to
share internet and all the network settings. I explain this way is that I
want to make clear it is not a problem about internet sharing, it is about
the why any of internal network cards does not work but the USB network
adapter works.

Thanks

I had tried my cable modem before. One pc connected to the modem regular
port and one laptop connected to USB port. Both were working and got the
different IPs. Now, go back to your situation. Many ISPs will assign only
one IP to the modem according to the mac address. Is it possible that the
USB has the IP so the another port can't get IP any more? I am not sure
about that but you may try to power off your modem, unplug USB. Wait for a
while and then reconnect it without USB. Please let us know the result.

My first pc connects cable modem by regular port, it works fine. The second
pc can only connect by USB port. My ISP assigns different IPs according to
mac address. I used all the methods to try, but it failed to connect through
internal NIC even I installed my first pc's NIC on it. I tried release,
power off cable modem, and all the other ways. It still didn't work. I even
used internet sharing from first pc, the second pc still can connect through
USB port but regular port didn't(I tried three internal NICs, all the same).

So, if you ping 127.0.0.1 on the second pc, do you get time out also? Since
you have tried three NICs, how about trying another slot.

If I ping 127.0.0.1, no any problem. And I also tried another slot, the
situation is same. I even installed a ISA NIC card to try, the result is
same.
