PC-A and PC-B access files on PC-C.
On ocassion, PC-C will access files on PC-A and PC-B. PC-C will always
access the printer on PC-B.
All of a sudden, I think, a few weeks ago, there was a FireFox update
and when the computer rebooted, PC-C could no longer access PC-A or
PC-B: neither drives or printers.
PC-A and PC-B can still access drives on PC-C.
I have tried many things to try to correct the problem, including a
complete re-install of Windows. I still have the same problem. I would
like to think it is hardware, but how could others access PC-C and
PC-C can access the internet through the same ethernet connection?
Any help, Please!
TIA
Joe
What version of Windows XP is on each of the computers? Service Pack?
What happens when you try to access a share on A or B from C? Please
include full text of any error message.
I assume that you reinstalled Windows on C, correct? Did you do a
"repair install," a "clean install," or a reset to ex-factory state with
a factory-supplied "recovery" CD/DVD? Do you have a 3rd-party firewall
on C?
The Firefox update is not likely to have been the cause of the problem.
In fact, the problem may be on A and/or B. Can A access B and vice versa?
If any of the computers is XP Pro or Media Center, is Simple File
Sharing turned on or off? (Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options >
View ... scroll down to the bottom of the list.
Is there a user account with the same name and password on each of the 3
computers? For example, is there a user Joe on A, B, and C, with the
password the same for all 3?
Do this on *each* PC (replace A, B, C with the actual names of your
computers):
1. Click Start / Run
2. Type the three letters cmd
3. Click OK
4. Type the following commands and press the Enter key after each of them:
set comp > c:\test.txt
ipconfig /all >> c:\test.txt
net share >> c:\test.txt
ping A >> c:\test.txt
ping B >> c:\test.txt
ping C >> c:\test.txt
notepad c:\test.txt
5. Paste the contents of the result from *each* PC into your reply.
