I haven't tried this with anyone yet because I don't know
anyone else who uses Microsoft Portrait and who is behind
a firewall/router.
Is this correct?
I haven't seen any information that describes Portrait's port usage ( do you
have a reference?) but if it uses specific fixed ports getting through the
router/firewall could be easier.
It would depend on the calling mechanism -- it seems to use the ILS server
for audio/video call connection -- if that is the case then all the problems
associated with calling a person using NetMeeting/ILS behind a router would
likely apply.

Please do not email copies of newsgroup postings -- I am easily
confused.
It depends how you're connecting to contact if this will work I believe. One of Portrait's
connection types is just "listening" for a connection on an IP (like Netmeeting can) and
obviously this should work. As well, Portrait also has Messenger integration (and adds a
'Start Portrait' option in Messenger), but if you're behind the router, and you send a
request via Messenger, I'm unsure whether or not it will connect (I'd definitely be
interested in hearing these results). As well, like Netmeeting, Portrait can connect to an
ILS server.
For reference, Portrait uses ports 8100 (listening port), 8110 (video), and 8120 (audio).

Portrait doesnt produce video as crisp as Netmeeting, but
the developers of Portrait promote it as being perfect
for low bandwidth connections like 56K modems and low
power devices like Pocket PCs.
Anyway, I still don't know anyone else who uses Portrait,
so I won't be able to use it much.
