Sound devices not swapping

[Win XP SP3.]
I have an integrated sound card and speakers and a USB headset. Until
recently the integrated sound card would normally be active. When I
plugged in the headset the sound would automatically swap to the
headset. For some reason it no longer does this and I have to
manually change it in control panel. Can anyone help me return this... more »

eSata drivers for internal eSata drives under WinXP SP3

Does Microsoft have available for download drivers which will improve the performance of eSata internal harddrives.
As shipped originally WinXP was probably not equipped to handle eSata, but years later there are many things available for use under WinXP SP3 which the old drivers won't optimize.... more »

Will not FULLY shut down

I have a motherboard INTEL DX58SO (i7)
I have a RAID 5 - 4 using HDS - one stopped
I put it in ignorance for "no-raid" in the raid manager.
I like this recuprerar RAID?

Display not powering off

An occasional (Dell) laptop sometimes goes through a period of not turning off the display even though there's no manual activity.
The display is set to power off after 5 minutes.
Jobs are running (not flash) but there's no manual input, and most laptops will power off the display as it's set. Just not the occasional one.... more »

HP ZT1000 laptop.
Reinstalled Win XP Home from original disk.
It all came up but I am unable to get the WiFi to work.
1) Refresh networks only shows one WiFi but the name shows as [][][][][]
It does ask for a password but will not take it.

problem opening encrypted excel and word files

This problem has just appeared since last week:
I have some encrypted files (using the normal NTFS folder encryption feature) but now when I try to open the Excel ones I'm told the file is in use or encrypted and can't be accessed, whilst some of the word ones give me a warning they can only be opened read-only. Other file types... more »

I would like to attach a second screen to my 'puter, but do not want to
stretch my desktop to that second screen (one is a monitor, the other is a

Advanced Install files - removable?

My XP has an Advanced Installer hidden directory on all drives.
I don't know how they got there. (I have 20 partitions.)
They contain a lot of bytes.
I can remove them one-by-one and have done so on a few partitions.
How do I get rid of them? Should I?

Lost German letters e.g. üöä on a e.g. Danish keyboard

Basically it works like this: I press the dots next to enter (where also acute and tilde are) and the the letter I need as uoa as in the header
I have danish keyboard and need german/estonian letter, and this system works well.
